One Hero, The People (Un Seul Héros, le Peuple) tells the story of a victorious popular uprising. In 1960, facing militarized repression, Algeria’s working-class populations—with women and children sometimes on the front lines—surged forth from shantytowns and segregated neighborhoods. They thwarted the counter-insurgency and upended the colonial order. It is also the story of oppressed bodies liberating themselves through dance.
One Hero, The People was directed by Mathieu Rigouste.
One Hero, The People runs for 1h 21min, and was released in 2020.
