A thunderstorm. A prison guard runs from prison in the rain, taking shelter from the storm in an antique shop. A gendarme's whistle, an explosion—an assassination attempt on the Tsar. Kibalchich's house is searched. He is obsessed with the idea of creating a jet engine, which he even sees in the tip of the Minister of Internal Affairs' cigar. The Peter and Paul Fortress brings Kibalchich and the guard together. Memories unfold to the accompaniment of a waltz—the park, the unveiling of a monument, the mint. A walk before the execution, an empty cell. The overseer tries to fly, but a whip cuts his dream short. And Kibalchich's dream bursts out of the Peter and Paul Fortress, filling the entire screen with a rocket.
